Wise Sons

As my children have become adults, I have watched them living with wisdom as they shape their lives and make decisions. And, as Solomon observed, it makes this father glad. My beloved pastor Barry McMurtrie once observed, “you will only be as happy as your saddest child”. It’s true, many moms especially, are lifting prayers and grieving for wayward children. If you ever wonder if God supports the righteous and thwarts the wicked, the answer is yes! Remember, that our own righteousness will compare to God’s righteousness as ‘filthy rags’, but the positional righteousness in Christ is what God sees when our faith and trust is in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Let’s make our Heavenly Father glad today!

A wise son makes a father glad,
But a foolish son is a grief to his mother.
Ill-gotten gains do not benefit,
But righteousness rescues from death.
The Lord will not allow the righteous to hunger,
But He will reject the craving of the wicked. Proverbs 10:1-3 NASB

How do my parents feel about me, their son? How does God, my Heavenly Father feel?

God, as this day begins- I want to be a wise son. I am committing to righteousness and obedience. Would you continue to rescue me from wrongdoing? I see that You provide more than I deserve. Help me be generous with time, talent and treasure. I pray today, again for the healing of people who are suffering. Help Mack, with his dialysis. Uphold Alberto and encourage him. Complete the healing within Jeanetta’s body. I claim Your promises that come from Your name of old: Jehovah Rophe – the God who heals you. Be Yourself, Lord, in their lives. Amen. Oh, and thank you for yesterday- the support of family as I took the oath to join the California Bar.
