Why We Love

We love, because He first loved us.
If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.
And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also. 1 John 4:19-21

What is it that compels Christians to love? It is born out of our response to the very love of God which has been poured upon us. Because God is now dwelling in us and He influences our thinking, values and emotions… we find a greater capacity to love others. This, then becomes a very real and powerful evidence of His presence in our lives and that we belong to Him.

How do I treat other people? Is there an abiding love in my heart and actual expressions that are real and tangible?

God, thank you for loving me. May I let that love flow into my life and through my life to others. In Jesus name. Amen.

Resolution #4 of Jonathan Edwards: Resolved, never to do any manner of thing, whether in soul or body, less or more, but what tends to the glory of God; nor be, nor suffer it, if I can avoid it.
