When We Are Scared

Hosted by

Jacob said, “O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, O Lord, who said to me, ‘Return to your country and to your relatives, and I will prosper you,’
I am unworthy of all the lovingkindness and of all the faithfulness which You have shown to Your servant; for with my staff only I crossed this Jordan, and now I have become two companies.
Deliver me, I pray, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him, that he will come and attack me and the mothers with the children.
For You said, ‘I will surely prosper you and make your descendants as the sand of the sea, which is too great to be numbered.’” Genesis 32:9-12

It can be very scary when we must confront our past sins. Jacob was about to face the brother he had deceived so many years ago. And he was scared, scared that all he had would be take from him, maybe even his life. And so he takes his fears and past before God- reciting the promises and character of God. Jacob acknowledges his unworthiness and relies upon God’s grace and His faithfulness. This is a prayer God is willing to hear even today.

What are my great fears? What past sins hold power in my life?

God, as this day begins, I am grateful that I can do some chores and bless my daughter by doing the brakes on her car. I am grateful You’ve put another very special idea on my mind. Help me fulfill what You’ve called me to. Please lead and guide throughout this day. I pray I can be a blessing to the family at their memorial service today as well.
