What Does It Matter?… That, God Is Light!

God Is LightThis is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:5-7

John was Jesus closest earthly friend. Long days and cool nights around the campfire gave John an insight into both the heart, mind and plans of God. The message he wanted us to understand is summarized in the beginning of his letter to the churches: God is Light! But that does that even mean? God spoke everything we see into existence, beginning with the command “Let there be light”. So, God is self-existent. Light is the source of illumination or truth. He is the Truth (John 14:6). But, light is also Love. Jesus said of Himself, “I am the Light of the World”. The message of God is expressed in Jesus Christ. After all, that’s what John’s gospel said… The Word was with God and was God. The Word (Jesus), being the ‘Logos’, the very idea or express representation of God. I like how one of my Bible professor explained the first chapter of John’s gospel: God had something to say, and He said it in Jesus Christ. The implications are profound, for eternal life and salvation are afforded to those who will believe and obey.

Is Jesus the Light of my world? Am I His ‘little light’, shining with His love, truth and purity?

God, I want to be in Your Light. May the blood of Jesus cleanse me today of all sin. I hate the affects of sin in my life, making me weak and disconnected. Oh, how I love the inner strength that comes from righteousness and hearing Your whispers throughout the day. Lord, see me as pure and I will be pure. Let’s walk together in fellowship. May this day have eternal purpose and light.
