As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch *said, “Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?”
And Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him. Acts 8:36-38
The Bible is a big book with small print containing a good deal of history, stories, songs, and doctrines. What do I have to believe to be saved?
Philip explained about the life and message of Jesus to the traveling Ethiopian. The explanation led to a profound belief in Jesus, followed by an immediate desire to be obedient in the act of baptism. Philip started with the basic knowledge already present. Apparently, the Ethiopian knew the old testament stories and had some basis in Judaism. From there, he discovered that one central truth- Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God”. If someone asked me, what one thing I need to believe, I would answer with this truth.
Who in my circle of friends has not yet come to that amazing revelation? How can I help them see Jesus is the Christ (Savior) of the world.
God, as this day begins, please forgive my trespasses and lead me in righteousness. May today be filled with great purpose and love.
