What Are You Wearing?

Some activities or events have dress codes or expectations of what we should wear. Restaurants have rules like ‘no shirt, no shoes, no service’. Have you ever heard two women talking on the phone asking each other ‘what are you wearing’? Sometimes I have to be the deciding factor on which shoes go best with my wife’s outfit. As important as fitting attire is… being clothed in spiritual virtues is far more! We should disrobe such character defects as anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from our lips. And then, we are to put on the most wonderful qualities that are all held together with that last accessory- love!

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Colossians 3:12-14 NIV

What do others see in me? Is it qualities consistent with the character of Christ, or outbursts of sin and selfishness?

God, as this day begins- there is a growing list of activities and tasks to perform. But, more than that, there are people to love. Would You lead and guide each hour of the day. Help me see what is most needed in every situation. Impart, I pray, Your wisdom and power, spiritual insight and strength. I especially ask You to give Tim (my friend) an answer to his broken car problem.
