Want To Get Lucky?

I was thinking today that sometimes I feel very lucky. My friend Bogar actually calls me “Lucky”! How nice that feels. Whenever I consider my lovely wife, I certainly think I am lucky- and so very fortunate! What makes me feel truly lucky is that God has chosen me. Its an amazing reality to consider. There was nothing special about me to warrant His affection, yet in His abundant grace, He has called me to Himself, His service, and forgiven my sin. I have entered into a relationship with my Maker that I never had known prior. How about you? How does it make me feel? Lucky!!! So lucky, I wish it for everyone else and have devoted a good part of my life to letting others know about the love of God. When Judas rejected Jesus and betrayed him, an office was vacant. Peter led an exercise to see who God would choose to fill it. There was nothing special about Matthias- other than he was with them all since the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry and he had witnessed Jesus alive again (resurrected) after His crucifixion. It could have been Joseph chosen. But, God in His foreknowledge could see what Matthias would become – faithful. While we know little about his ministry (likely spreading the gospel in what is modern day Turkey), we can trust that on the day he was chosen, he felt himself: Lucky!!!

Therefore it is necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us—  beginning with the baptism of John until the day that He was taken up from us—one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.”  So they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas (who was also called Justus), and Matthias. And they prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all people, show which one of these two You have chosen to occupy this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.”  And they drew lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles. Acts 1:21-26 NASB

How have I responded to God’s call and choosing? Will I too be found faithful?

God, as this day begins- I am so grateful that 41 years ago, I opened up my heart to You and committed to following Jesus’ ways and teaching. I feel fortunate beyond belief. You’ve been so faithful to all Your promises. May I be faithful to mine as well. Any time You want to call me “Lucky”, I will reply- “Yes, here am I, Lord- send me”.
