Walking In The Spirit

I, John, your brother and fellow partaker in the tribulation and kingdom and perseverance which are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like the sound of a trumpet, saying, “Write in a book what you see, and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.” Revelation 1:9-11

There are days when I feel like I “floated” through the day, led by God’s Spirit and that God was whispering all along what I should think, feel, say and do. My Bible reading plan has brought me to the book of Revelation today. The book is a preview vision of the consummation of the world and eventual return of Jesus Christ to the earth. John was imprisoned on the island of Patmos. From its cliffs he could look across the Aegean sea and think about the cities mentioned. These churches are real churches of his day, but also indicative of every church and church age. It was John’s association with Jesus that led to his arrest and imprisonment. Yet, it was his love and closeness with the Lord that made him the perfect recipient of this profound revelation.

What has God revealed to me? Have I been a person filled with love, faithful to my Lord and worthy of the revelation I have received?

God, as this day begins- I am excited to remember that nothing surprises You. You are at work all the time. You speak. You have spoken. What John saw in him vision will one day unfold. Help me be ready and a participant with Your Spirit in bringing redemption to people and our world. May I walk in the Spirit today.
