Treasures Of The Heart

treasuresProverbs 21
The acquisition of treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor, the pursuit of death. v6
He who loves pleasure will become a poor man;
He who loves wine and oil will not become rich. v17
There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish man swallows it up. v20
The desire of the sluggard puts him to death, for his hands refuse to work; v25

In these sayings we are reminded that obtaining wealth by lying will not be long rewarded. And while God allows His people to have treasures, if we are consumed with pleasure seeking, it will not last either. Lastly, there is a reward in hard work, but laziness or being a sluggard will not lead to success.

How do I view wealth and treasure? Are my motives pure or has greed and hedonism influenced my motivations?

God, thank you for the reminder from scripture that You really care about my attitude about wealth and the way I pursue it, why I work, and for what purpose. Purify my heart in this way. Thank you for being so generous with me. I want to fulfill the scripture “You will be made rich in every way, so that you can be generous on every occasion.” Work in me and through me this next week as I begin this mission trip.
