Torn

I have been with families when their loved one is near death. Often God, in His grace, let’s the person know that they are going to die. But, they hang on for the sake of their family. Sometimes the family has to let their loved one know “its ok to go”, and shortly after that they do. I wonder if God gave Paul that understanding while imprisoned in Rome? It certainly seems he was torn between his ministry on earth and entering into heaven to be with Christ. When you know God that intimately you will be ready to depart and often torn. That’s why its God decision and sovereignty.

I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. Philippians 1:20-24 NASB

How ready am I to enter the life to come and be with Christ? What devotion is lacking in my preparation right now?

God, as this day begins- I feel a great of purpose here and now. But, when the day comes, I want to arrive in heaven not as a stranger, but a friend. So, today I set my mind on things above inviting You to lead and guide in every way. May I be part of Your redemptive work in the world.
