Tooting Your Own Horn

But he who boasts is to boast in the Lord. For it is not he who commends himself that is approved, but he whom the Lord commends. 2 Corinthians 10:17-18

Its amazing what can be accomplished when we don’t care who gets the credit. The apostle Paul wrestled with the response of the Corinthian church. In some ways they accepted him and his authority. In other ways, they clung to the teaching of other so-called teachers and leaders and discounted him. Instead of demanding the respect he was due, he humbly decided that he would not toot his own horn, but rather boast only in the Lord, trusting that God would commend him. Instead of worrying about who gets credit for what… I should be more concerned that the Lord commends me.

Am I focused on my accomplishments or pleasing the Lord? Am I more concerned about my reputation or that of Jesus Christ?

Lord, as this day begins may I walk in humility knowing that You love me, called me, and approve of me. I pray that I can reach out and love people in Your name today. Help me resist the temptation to seek approval from men more than You.
