This Is The Way

I’ve been watching The Mandalorian with my wife. The Mandalorian is part of a religious sect of bounty hunters. When together they talk about how they go about life and business and say to each other “This is the Way”! To which the others will reply “Yes, This is the Way”. Did you know that the movement in the first century of Christians were called “The Way”?

I think I’ve been to over 50 conferences or trainings on leadership in my career as a businessman, entrepreneur and pastor. I often am happy if I hear even one ‘gold nugget’ that is helpful in my life. Maybe I will find a better “Way”. But, truly, Solomon was right, there is nothing new under the sun. When I heard Jesus talk about leadership (which the disciples called being the ‘greatest’), I learned the truest of all leadership lessons. The GOATs among us in the church and kingdom of God (GOAT – Greatest Of All Time), are quite different than you would expect. It’s the younger, lesser, servants of all. Jesus, who is our model in all things said so, and demonstrated it over and over again. This is the Way!

And a dispute also developed among them as to which one of them was regarded as being the greatest. And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles domineer over them; and those who have authority over them are called ‘Benefactors.’  But it is not this way for you; rather, the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant.  For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But I am among you as the one who serves. Luke 22:24-27 NASB

Do I care more about having some position, popularity and power, more than about God working in me and through me to bless others? Have I discovered that being filled with the Holy Spirit is better than any human acclaim?

God, help me strive for what You desire- servanthood! For this is the way, Your way. Amen.
