Third Time’s A Charm

But when Isaac’s servants dug in the valley and found there a well of flowing water, the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with the herdsmen of Isaac, saying, “The water is ours!” So he named the well Esek, because they contended with him.  Then they dug another well, and they quarreled over it too, so he named it Sitnah.  He moved away from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it; so he named it Rehoboth, for he said, “At last the Lord has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land.” Then he went up from there to Beersheba.

The Lord appeared to him the same night and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham; Do not fear, for I am with you. I will bless you, and multiply you descendants, For the sake of My servant Abraham.” So he built an altar there and called upon the name of the Lord, and pitched his tent there; and there Isaac’s servants dug a well.

Sometimes when I am following God’s call on my life I run into opposition. I do something that brings a blessing to those around me, and others want to quash it. I move on to do it again… and I am confronted by those who don’t understand. And then it happens, the third time is a charm. I think as we are led by the Spirit of God we mistakenly think there will not be opposition and that everything will flow like water. But, its our faith that is to flow like water, not getting upset, simply moving on in power believing God is leading and will bring about His will. That’s what happened with Isaac when he dug the wells and the herdsmen of Gerar were in opposition. Isaac didn’t give up, and the third time was the charm.

How about me? Do I give up too easily or get upset when opposition in my life arises? How can I flow (in attitude) with the Spirit of God believing that where God leads, He provides and prevails?

God, as this day begins- there really is a balance to “pushing” forward and “flowing” forward. Help me stay in step with the Spirit of God within, trusting completely in You and Your promises. I know opposition awaits any good thing. I believe You will prevail and the gates of hell cannot withstand the gospel of Jesus Christ. Help me preach it and live it faithfully.
