These Dreams

Now when the news was heard in Pharaoh’s house that Joseph’s brothers had come, it pleased Pharaoh and his servants.  Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Say to your brothers, ‘Do this: load your beasts and go to the land of Canaan, and take your father and your households and come to me, and I will give you the best of the land of Egypt and you will eat the fat of the land.’  Now you are ordered, ‘Do this: take wagons from the land of Egypt for your little ones and for your wives, and bring your father and come.  Do not concern yourselves with your goods, for the best of all the land of Egypt is yours.’”

Then the sons of Israel did so; and Joseph gave them wagons according to the command of Pharaoh, and gave them provisions for the journey.  To each of them he gave changes of garments, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver and five changes of garments.  To his father he sent as follows: ten donkeys loaded with the best things of Egypt, and ten female donkeys loaded with grain and bread and sustenance for his father on the journey. Genesis 45:16-23 NASB

Dreams still come true. God is still on the throne and prayer changes things. These might sound like slogans or nice little sayings. But, for the Christian, its our reality. When God gives us a dream and we faithfully follow His will and His ways, we can expect (in time) for it to come to pass. Just as Joseph had dreamed many years ago, the plans of God unfolded with splendid drama and detail. God even moved the heart of Pharaoh to provide for Joseph’s extended family to move with wagons from Canaan to Goshen. All the best of Egypt was offered to them. Interestingly, as we will learn, the best of Egypt cannot be compared to the best of God. Nonetheless, God was providing all the food Jacob’s son’s would need in the midst of a famine. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob kept His promise and fulfilled the dream He gave Joseph. And most importantly, the life of Judah was saved and his lineage protected, from which would come Jesus Christ.

As I consider the dreams God has given me, how faithful am I as they unfold? Which dreams have been fulfilled with great drama and detail?

God, as this day begins- I see Your hand in my life and the wonderful blessings that have flowed. I am grateful. Help me stay faithful to pursuing the dreams You have given, knowing the best of Egypt awaits and more importantly, one day I will be with You in paradise. Meanwhile, I will be about the daily tasks of ministering to Your people and sharing the gospel with those outside the faith… inviting them to know a God who still gives dreams and fulfills them.
