Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:1-3
God has a plan for each of us. He has laid out a course for each of us to run. Sin can prevent me from either staying on the course or slow me down to the point I won’t finish my race. That’s why the author of Hebrews says, lay it aside… and anything else that might encumber me. Why? This is the only race worth running. In has eternal rewards and joy unspeakable awaiting, not to mention, a profound sense of purpose. Some haven’t yet taken their place to start the race. Its time for all of us to get on the mark.
What is slowing me down? Who can I invite into the greatest race of their lives?
God as this day begins, give me the ability to cause everyone I meet to know they are loved by You. As we dedicate baby Kennedy, may we from this day forward see Your great purpose in her life as she begins her race.
