The Deceit Of Sin

sinWhat shall we say then? Is the Law sin?
May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, You shall not covet. But sin, taking opportunity through the commandment, produced in me coveting of every kind; for apart from the Law sin is dead.
I was once alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin became alive and I died; and this commandment, which was to result in life, proved to result in death for me; for sin, taking an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me.
So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good. Romans 7:7-12

God is not to blame for my sin. He has given us everything needed to live this life in a holy way, including His holy law. The Apostle Paul masterfully illustrates the deceitfulness of sin, wherein even the knowledge of sin that comes through God’s holy law is turned around against us and used as a temptation and lure toward sin. As sure as we have a loving heavenly Father, we also have an enemy of our very soul – namely Satan, the deceiver. From the very beginning Satan manipulated God’s word to entice mankind toward sin. He still has that play in his playbook.

Do I really know and understand God’s Word and the Bible?

God, becoming a student of Your Word is the great ambition of my life. I desire to live it out and know the power of righteousness in my life. Purify me today by Your Spirit and by the washing of the Word in my life. There is much to accomplish today for Your kingdom, let’s do it together. Lead on. And as I am tempted by sin, lead in Your paths and strengthen me with power and wisdom to choose the narrow path.
