Do not claim honor in the presence of the king, and do not stand in the place of great men;
For it is better that it be said to you, “Come up here,” than for you to be placed lower in the presence of the prince, whom your eyes have seen. Proverbs 25:6-7
There is a constant temptation we face as Christians to want recognition. There is nothing wrong with it, once earned, but often we feel entitled to sit in the best spots, go to the front of the line, and be noticed. Solomon warned against it. Its better to demonstrate humility and allow others to recognize you, instead of being embarrassed and moved to the back.
Am I trying to garner favor or recognition from anyone other than God?
Lord, thank you for reminding me that in the end, its You I want to impress and receive the wonderful commendation “well done, thy good and faithful servant”. Help me strive for righteousness and serving You well, not the acclaim of man.
