Standards, Not Comparisons

comparisonFor we are not bold to class or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves; but when they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are without understanding. 2 Corinthians 10:12
But he who boasts is to boast in the Lord. For it is not he who commends himself that is approved, but he whom the Lord commends.
2 Corinthians 10:17-18

We should live by standards, not comparisons. The Corinthian church was having trouble accepting the correction and guidance from the apostle Paul. He was very gentle with them in person and not so flamboyant or impressive. But, in his letters, he strongly admonished them in love. Paul was presenting God’s standard of living and showing them that is what they should look to. Its true for us as well. As society devolves into debauchery, we should not look at other’s and think, I am better than them. Rather, let’s look to God’s holy word as the guide for life.

In what areas of life am I tempted to compare? What does God’s word reveal about God’s will and His ways?

Lord, what a great weekend so far! I look forward to a wonderful time worshiping with others and seeing Your people. I pray that pastor Noe will feel great and that as he shares the truth’s of the Bible, they will flow into our hearts and minds and prepare us for the plans You have for our lives. Draw many to Yourself today.
