I have a framed picture in my office of a huge wave slamming into a lighthouse. Its astonishing. I always wondered how they built the lighthouse. Most likely during calm days. But, upon closer inspection, you can see that a man is standing there within the lighthouse as calm as ever. Jesus said that life will have great difficulty, rain and wind, floods and waves will slam against us. But, if we’ve built our lives upon Him and His teaching (we actually practice what He has taught), we will not fall. We may suffer loss in its various forms, but we will not fall. Let’s build our lives upon Him in the calm days, so when the storms come we can stand. By the way, we won’t stand alone, for He promises to always be with us.
Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Do I know the value of seeking Him daily and allowing the Spirit of God to prepare me for the difficulties in life? Am I available to walk with others through their darkest days?
God, as this days begins- I will find myself in so many situations. I will encounter the great suffering of others, may I be sympathetic and compassionate. I will address million dollar opportunities, give me great wisdom to earn the trust of all. I will hopefully see my cutie grandchildren, may I be filled with joy. Oh, so much ahead. Would you walk with me? And when difficulties come my way, help me to stand and not to fall. My trust is in You.
