Setting My Mind On The Spirit

mindsetFor the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. Romans 8:6-10

The idea of setting my mind on something is another way of saying ‘take a God’s perspective’ on something. If I take a fleshly perspective in life, I will try to please my self, my desires and seek pleasures. But when I set my mind on the Spirit (taking God’s perspective and allowing the Holy Spirit to control me), everything changes. Life, joy, righteousness and an ability to please God become mine. It is imperative that I set my mind on ‘things above’ and how I think has everything to do with whether or not I am saved.

How much and how often do I allow a fleshly mindset to rule my life? How can I set my mind on the Spirit today?

God, this is the difference maker! Help me again choose to be filled with Your Spirit, for my desire is to please You. I know that life and peace and righteousness are mine, in Christ. Thank you.
