serving in the emergencySo we answered his questions. Could we possibly know that he would say, ‘Bring your brother down’?” Judah said to his father Israel, “Send the lad with me and we will arise and go, that we may live and not die, we as well as you and our little ones.
I myself will be surety for him; you may hold me responsible for him.
If I do not bring him back to you and set him before you, then let me bear the blame before you forever. For if we had not delayed, surely by now we could have returned twice. Genesis 43:8-10

Judah was willing to put his life in jeopardy for the sake of his younger brother Benjamin. So it was with Jesus Christ, who put Himself in the place of every man, paying the penalty for our sins upon the cross. Judah was willing to serve in the emergency; to put himself out there and on the line. I wonder if we realize that in these days, Christians must be willing to serve in the emergency? People are lost and hungry, even starving for a connection to the God who made them. But, they are trapped in vices, worldly living, selfish pursuits of hedonism. Its an emergency, they are living without Christ and destined to die apart from Him as well. Oh Christians, let’s share the gospel and the love of God with people today.

Am I willing to ‘go, that we may live and not die”? Who do You want to love through me today?

God, I am reminded that we are in a spiritual emergency and living in an unprecedented time in America like never before. People are lost and paying dearly with heartache, pain, and lack of eternal purpose. They are separated from You now, and may be, forevermore. Give me eyes to see, hands to share, and the words to speak life into a dying world.
