I have a confession to make. Don’t think less of me! I don’t really know any Taylor Swift songs. Sorry. I am many years now from being a teenager when songs on the radio were everything. But… one song of hers I played today called Love Story. It tells of two people pursuing love. “That you were Romeo, you were throwin’ pebbles; And my daddy said, “Stay away from Juliet”; And I was cryin’ on the staircase; Beggin’ you, “Please don’t go,” Really good song. The Bible says we should pursue love (not just romantic love), but love in its myriad of expressions. And desire gifts too. Sometimes we elevate the gifts while diminishing the call to love. A beautiful tree (life) is one bearing lots of fruit above (like love, joy, peace patience, goodness, gentleness, self-control) and like a Christmas tree, gifts at the floor underneath. Let love blossom in us today!

Pursue love, yet earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. For the one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people, but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries. But the one who prophesies speaks to people for edification, exhortation, and consolation. 1 Corinthians 14:1-3 NASB

What gifts from God tend to be on display instead of love in my life? How am I pursuing love and desiring spiritual gifts?

God, as this day begins- I am overflowing with a love from You in my heart. May it find its way to those who need it today. I thank You for the wonderful older adults in the church and our Wednesday gatherings. I praise You for the exchange of love I experience with my family as well.
