Promises, Promises

I don’t keep every promise I make. I am aware of two outstanding promises right now that remain unfulfilled. In life we make big and small promises. Some are of little importance, others of enormous importance. Jesus made the most amazing promise- He said that “In Him” is eternal life. That if we believe in Him, we will live for ever. Now, that’s both attractive and audacious. But, then- He went and demonstrated that He had the authority to back up the promise. He died a death He didn’t deserve, and then after being placed in a borrowed tomb, He took His own life up again and ascended to heaven where He awaits those of us who put our faith and trust in Him! This is crazy good. Having once received this news and having invited Him to live in our hearts, we will be ready for either our own death or His return. Let’s reject worldliness and live in the light, so we won’t shrink back from either!

This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life. These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you. As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming. If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him. 1 John 2:25-29 NASB

How can I walk in the light today? In what ways can I fulfill the promises I make?

God, as this day begins- its an amazing one. I go to grieve, remember, and to some degree celebrate the lives of family members who have passed from this life to the next. Help me direct them toward You. May their faith serve them well. And then, I celebrate the birthday of Carter! That precious two year old, is a constant ball of joy, energy, and movement! What a gift he is to our family. Please walk with me today Lord Jesus.
