Prayers Too Small?

My two year old grandson, Avery modifies almost every sentence with his favorite word “big”! Want to take a bath, Avery? Big bath, he replies. Want a bite? Big bite, papa! This last Wednesday, a favorite pastor/preacher of mine (Chuck Booher) reminded us that one reason our prayers go unanswered by God is that the prayers we are praying are too small… He has something bigger, greater, more well-fit that you could imagine. The apostle Paul knew all about this.

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21 NASB

Are my prayers a conversation wherein I allow God to shape my very desires? What limits have I placed on the God of creation who is able to do anything and everything?

God, as this day begins- I determine to listen more than talk to You today. After all, You have wisdom from above and I am from below. I might be afraid to hear what You really have planned, yet I trust You. So, as we make our way through the day, I will pause to be Spirit led at every hour. I don’t want my prayers to be too small. May the fulfillment of my prayers bring glory in the church and in Christ Jesus.
