Popularity v. Devotion

Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:25-27

Jesus attracted huge crowds, sometimes approaching as many as 20,000 men, women, and children. It seems that when He did, he reminded us of the cost of discipleship. Popularity is one thing, devotion is another. He said a person cannot be his disciple if He is not the priority in our lives, above everyone else. I am sure the next gathering was much smaller.

Do I care about my popularity? Am I devoted to Jesus, or just a fan in the stands?

What a day ahead. Lord Jesus, would you lead and guide me through this day. I have some tasks to accomplish and people to love in Your name. Help me do both. I am praying again for my mom and her strength and energy. May Josh and Jake’s celebration be wonderful as well. May each of my kids draw close to You in devotion as well.
