One Way

Back in the 1970s and 80s a bunch of Christians had a hand sign with their index finger pointing up to heaven. It meant “One Way”. There is one way to be saved- the grace of God. It was a contrast for those who would claim heritage, or some work of the law, could save. The same conflict existed right at the beginning of Christianity. Peter and James (Jewish disciples) were tempted to rely upon circumcision or dietary laws and to separate themselves from Gentile practices and believers. Paul (also a Jew), said emphatically “no”! They agreed that Paul would focus on Gentile evangelism and James and Peter on Jewish evangelism. Paul summarized the need to die to the law and live by faith.

I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.  Galatians 2:20 NASB

Is my relationship and right standing with God based on anything other than the completed sacrificial work of Christ on the cross? Am I tempted to separate from any other believers?

God, as this day begins- I am grateful for the salvation You provide by grace through faith. May I never boast in anything except the cross. As this day unfolds, I pray that You would amplify my efforts in service of the kingdom and people. Help me love others in Your name. I pray especially for the health of my friend Tim.
