No Sting

But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “Death is swallowed up in victory.
O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:54-58

When I was a kid, we used to catch H-bees in our hands. For whatever reason, these were non-stinging bees. Imagine that! Paul says that for a Christian, death no longer has its sting. Why? Because, the power of death is its ability to bring with it the eternal sting- separation from God for eternity. The Bible calls this hell or the second death. However, a Christian is one who has their sin forgiven. My penalty for violating God’s holy law is paid in full by Jesus’ substitionary death upon the cross. Thank God! As a result, I am to be rock solid and dong the work of the Lord, which will always bring a good reward.

Am I living in the victory won for me by Jesus Christ? Am I fearful that death will have a sting?

God, as this day begins, may I respond as Paul said, being steadfast in my devotion to You, immovable, and abounding in service to Your kingdom. Please help me reach out and encourage others in Your name today. Draw many into our fellowship as we gather. Please be close to the broken-hearted. May my friend Nazareth exude the joy You have placed in his life as he shares his story.
