No Good Deed Will Go Unpunished

good deedsNow Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. It came about after these events that his master’s wife looked with desire at Joseph, and she said, “Lie with me.” But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Behold, with me here, my master does not concern himself with anything in the house, and he has put all that he owns in my charge. There is no one greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil and sin against God?” Genesis 39:6-9

Joseph knew that responding to the advances from Potiphar’s wife would be sin. The reward for his faithfulness was worldly rejection. Why do we expect anything different today? Too often, I expect too much from immature or unregenerate people who operate from their fleshly desires, not the control of the Spirit of God. Even though he suffered, God was with Joseph. That’s the real lesson. God doesn’t promise us the absence of conflict, but He does promise His presence.

What courageous stand do I need to make for the Lord? How am I preparing in my spirit and character to be ready?

God, I am thinking about the passage in Hebrews ‘none has resisted sin to the point of bloodshed’. I want to be ready to pass the integrity and leadership tests ahead. Help me see today more of Jesus’ character and to emulate Him. I acknowledge that not every good deed goes rewarded, sometimes they are punished. Thank You God, that You are faithful and present when they do!
