I grew up with the TV Program “My Three Sons” which was a comedic look at single fatherhood and normal household antics that accompany the raising of boys. I am so very fortunate to have a stellar daughter and three stellar young men who are walking in the faith, wonderful leaders in their family, shining for Christ in the marketplace, involved in ministry, all of this to the credit of my wife. They are honorable and honoring. My role was to avoid exasperating them and to provide some training (modeling) of how to follow God. The apostle Paul reminded the believers in Ephesus know how important this relationship truly is and the built in blessing (promise) it contains.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:1-4 NASB
How do I continue to honor my mother and faither? What can I do now as my three sons are men to inspire them in the continued training of the Lord?
God, as this day begins- I thank you for Kai, Keanu, Kaenan and the men of God they have become. Bless them as they walk with You day by day. Lead, guide, provide for them as they seek to serve their families and discover the god-honoring purposes in their lives. Thank you for “My Three Sons”!
