But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. 2 Peter 3:8-9
I have been taught that one day Jesus will return to the earth to defeat the enemies of God, rescue the remnant of believers, and establish an earthly kingdom. I expect that day to come. It may occur within my lifetime. And I want to be ready. Peter wanted it to occur in his lifetime. Some will rightly say “Oh you Christians have been saying that for a long, long time”. But, that doesn’t mean it isn’t going to happen. It will. And when it does it will take many by surprise, just like a thief breaking into a house at night. Meanwhile, we should thank God for His patience, because His coming is with vengeance and wrath for the vast majority of people who have ignored the message of Christ. Yes, there will be a day. May I say with the great crowd – maranatha (come Lord Jesus)!
How am I making preparation for the certain coming of Jesus? Will I be counted as one of the repentant and forgiven?
God, as this Sunday begins- I look forward to gathering online with people all around the world to acknowledge our faith in You, trust in Your Son Jesus, and eager anticipation of His return. Maranatha!
