Now the angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim.
And he said, “I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land which I have sworn to your fathers; and I said, ‘I will never break My covenant with you, and as for you, you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall tear down their altars.’
But you have not obeyed Me; what is this you have done? Judges 2:1-2
God was willing to keep His covenant with the Israelite’s. Instead of driving out the Canaanites and other people, they compromised with them and disobeyed God. They were setting up future trouble for themselves and God knew it. This is what happens with us when we don’t drive out sin from our lives. We are to tear down the altars that compete with God.
What areas of compromise are in my land? What altars need to be torn down, or torn down again?
God, thank you for this reminder to follow and obey You completely. I know there is always a blessing in obedience. You are good and gracious, for that I am grateful. As I navigate through this day, please help me be a blessing to those I meet.
