major conflictPaul, looking intently at the Council, said, “Brethren, I have lived my life with a perfectly good conscience before God up to this day.” The high priest Ananias commanded those standing beside him to strike him on the mouth. Then Paul said to him, “God is going to strike you, you whitewashed wall! Do you sit to try me according to the Law, and in violation of the Law order me to be struck? Acts 23:1-3

The Jewish rulers were not happy with Paul and brought him to trial for the preaching of this new “way”. The power base of these rulers was fading as people turned to the teachings of Jesus. They were not happy. Now, for the believers, persecution was happening from the Romans and the Jews. It was major conflict.

Do I understand that the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ brings major conflict? What am I prepared to endure?

Lord, I see what Paul and the apostles endured. Help me endure the small by comparison conflict in my life. As the church gathers today for worship, may many be drawn close to You, and may Your name be praised. You are good and worthy of our praise.
