I have never seen a king or queen in person. I’ve visited ancient thrones, castles, and the like. I can imagine the majesty of royalty with all its wealth, beauty, aloof from everyone else. I prefer humility but can appreciate the difference. When it comes to God, creation itself reveals His majesty. In particular, Jesus embodied the stunning contrast of humility and royalty altogether. He is after all the “King” of Kings and Lord of Lords. Think about it. As great or different a king would be from me (a commoner), so is Jesus in greatness and uniqueness than any king (who would be by comparison a commoner). This is why He is worthy of our worship. David, (even though he himself was a king) realized that God’s very name was majestic. He is the creator of the universe yet intimately acquainted with our lives!
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
What is man that you are mindful of him, O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
And the son of man that you care for him? Psalm 8:3-4; 9
I wonder why so many in our world are failing to ascribe to God the majesty due His very name: Jesus.
God, as this day begins- I marvel at why You would, O Lord would be concerned for me. Yet, You are. I love nature, partially because something inside me appreciates life and beauty. There is something else, I begin to see Your majesty even in a flower that blossoms, a star that shines, the mountain rising above the plain and the ocean stretching beyond the horizon. In all the vastness of the universe, You pause to answer my prayer. O Lord, O Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth… and in my heart!
