Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.
Let all that you do be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16: 13-14
This advice given at the close of his letter is worth memorizing. I fear that we have been struck with a plague in America. Its the plague of the 40 year old boy! Unfortunately, there are many who haven’t discovered its actually better to be man than a boy. Its actually better to be a man than a boy.
We are useful to God when we are alert and engaged and standing firm in our faith. I love the line, “act like men” (as opposed to behaving like children). We all need to grow up in the Lord. As we do, there will be a strength that marks our life.
How can I be more alert and available to God? In what ways am I still acting childish?
God, I desire to stand firm and strong for You. Help me grow up into maturity, useful for every service in Your kingdom. Thank you for Your blessings and meeting the greatest needs in my life. I pray again this morning for those with parents who are ailing. Guide me through this day.
