Jesus Freaks

Jesus freaksLittle children, I am with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’ A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:33-35

When I was a kid, I heard people refer to Christians as Jesus freaks. Christians were noticeably different and freakishly committed to their beliefs and practices. Jesus disclosed that his death was soon about to occur. His disciples had just had their feet washed by Him as a selfless act of humble service. Now He gave them and us the standard of love He expects… namely, the same love He showed – selfless and sacrificial. By this it would be evident to all around us that we follow Jesus and are His disciples. You don’t hear the term Jesus freak so much these days, maybe that’s a problem.

Is the standard of love on display in my life that same that Jesus demonstrated? Would others know I am Christian by my love?

Lord Jesus, thank you for Your example. Help me be like you in word, thought and deed today. On this day, good Friday, I am remembering that You were betrayed and yet You loved all the way. If I am called a Jesus freak, I will consider it a great compliment and high praise indeed.
