If, Then

Then Jacob made a vow, saying, If God will be with me and will keep me on this journey that I take, and will give me food to eat and garments to wear, and I return to my father’s house in safety, then the Lord will be my God.
This stone, which I have set up as a pillar, will be God’s house, and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You. Genesis 28:20-22

I think we all make deals with God. Jacob made a big one- He promised that he would return and make “God’s house” in the place where God gave him an amazing dream and promise about his life. The truth is, God gives us all amazing dreams and promises about our lives. He promises to never leave or forsake us. His thoughts are to prosper and not to harm. He forgives the sins of the penitent. He abides, leads and guides. Of course, our experience as Christians (followers of Jesus, the Christ), is that His house, is now us! Yes. He is not looking for a home made with hands, but hearts- that’s where he lives. If we believe, then we receive… Him!

How and when did I first open my heart to God? What promises are yet to appropriate? What is the “If”, He asks of me?

God, as this day begins, may You go before me and within me… showing me the best of use of my time right now. Do more than I could ever imagine. Help me be grateful, faithful, and useful in Your kingdom. If You will be with me adn will keep me on this journey that I take, and will give me food to eat and garments to wear, and I return to my father’s house in safety, then You will be my God!
