I Fought The Law

What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, “You shall not covet.” But sin, taking opportunity through the commandment, produced in me coveting of every kind; for apart from the Law sin is dead.
So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good. Romans 7:7-9,12

There is a world of difference between the ‘law’ and ‘sin’. Both are stubborn and powerful. You can’t fight the law of God. Jesus defeated the power of sin for any who will put their faith and trust in Him.
The law is the holy revelation of God showing us how to live righteously. Sin, is the inherited propensity toward selfishness and wrongdoing (sin nature). The law is holy, sin is sinful, ugly, devilish and damning. Paul uses the absurdity of considering the outcome of God’s grace applied to sin… to ask in essence, since grace abounds when we sin, should we sin more? Of course not! And then he goes further to ask ‘Is the law sin?’ Of course not! But some have sadly considered them to be the same. They are not.

How clear am I about the beauty and holiness of God’s law and the utter depravity of sin?

God, may I walk in righteousness today. Thank you for Jesus living in me, who gives me power over sin and a love for Your holy law. He is the fulfillment of the law and the prophets. I pray for a fantastic day of worship… may David and Linda be honored on this day for their dedication, love and service. May Steve and Joe shine as they teach Your word. Anoint pastor Chuck with a supernatural ability to preach again today.

Breakin’ rocks in the hot sun
I fought the law and the law won
I needed money ’cause I had none
I fought the law and the law won
I left my baby and it feels so bad
Guess my race is run
She’s the best girl that I ever had
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the
Robbin’ people with a six-gun
I fought the law and the law won
I lost my girl and I lost my fun
I fought the law and the law won
