I Am Not The Child Of The Slave Woman

I heard the wonderful pastor Greg Laurie say “Christians are not better than other people, we are however, better off”. I feel that way. I am not trying to compare myself to others in some sort of ‘goodness’ contest, because in doing so, I would be relying upon the law of God and my keeping it, to justify myself. Instead, I rely on God’s grace and promise of salvation through the atoning work of Christ Jesus. So, when I promote the wonderful life God has to offer, I am just one beggar, telling another beggar, where I found bread! If you too are a child of promise, resist the temptation to live as one justifying himself under a set of rules (the law). Fulfill the law of love by the power of God’s Spirit dwelling in you. Don’t be the child of the slave woman (the law).

And you, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise. But as at that time the son who was born according to the flesh persecuted the one who was born according to the Spirit, so it is even now. But what does the Scripture say? “Drive out the slave woman and her son, For the son of the slave woman shall not be an heir with the son of the free woman.” So then, brothers and sisters, we are not children of a slave woman, but of the free woman. Galatians 4:28-31 NASB

How can I appropriate the freedom I have in Christ in the way I live and love others today?

God, as this day begins- I think about all that is ahead in opportunities to reach out and love others in Your name. I praise You for the many blessings that have fallen upon our family of late. The kids are thriving, the grandchildren are delightful. My wife is growing and preparing for future ministry and being an encouragement to many. You are providing what we need financially. I pause to remember those struggling with loss, uncertainty, and pain. Would you be the God of all comfort to them, even as You’ve always been to me. Thank you that I too am a child of Abraham, a child of promise!
