I smile when I hear the cartoon characters Pinky and the Brain talk. Pinky: “What do you want to do tonight?…” Brain: “Try to take over the world!”. God has a plan to take over the world. (more accurately, redeem it). He sent His Son Jesus into the world to save it by living a perfectly pleasing life and a substitutionary death to pay the sin debt of the world. Now, through His followers, He is saving and sanctifying people one by one that He adds to the church. Perhaps one of the most significant people redeemed was the Apostle Paul. He wrote tot he believers in Thessaloniki about what to do. His message applies to anyone today who wonders: “What do you want to do today”?
Live in peace with one another. We urge you, brothers and sisters, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone. See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek what is good for one another and for all people. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit, do not utterly reject prophecies, but examine everything; hold firmly to that which is good, abstain from every form of evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:13-22 NASB
Am I living in peace? Do I encourage the fainthearted? Help the weak? How patient am I with everyone (the slow bank teller, fast food server who go the order wrong again)? Am I forgiving or repaying evil with evil? Do I see what is good for all?
God, as this day begins- May I be a person rejoicing always, praying without ceasing, giving thanks in everything! Help me hold firm to what is good!
