How Does Your Garden Grow?

garden growAnd He was saying, “The kingdom of God is like a man who casts seed upon the soil; and he goes to bed at night and gets up by day, and the seed sprouts and grows—how, he himself does not know.

The soil produces crops by itself; first the blade, then the head, then the mature grain in the head. But when the crop permits, he immediately puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come. Mark 4:26-29

Remember the children’s poem, ‘Mary, Mary, quite contrary… how does your garden grow?’ The kingdom of God is growing imperceptibly all the time. The kingdom of God is wherever God is ‘king’. So whenever a person exemplifies the kingship of God by loving another person the kingdom of God grows. And whenever Jesus becomes the ruler of a heart it grows again. bGod is continually working in this world and in the hearts of man. He pursues us with compassion, longing for us to come into a relationship with Him.

Is God the ruler of every part of my heart? Will I be a fully mature Christian when God ‘puts the sickle’ to my life and it all comes to an end?

Lord Jesus, You are my example and goal. Would you walk with me through this day giving me thoughts beyond my own so that I might reach out and love others in Your name? I want Your kingdom to grow, first in me, and everywhere else.
