Hotel Naïve

As I grow older, I pray I am getting wiser. I can certainly confess that I have ‘checked in’ many times to Hotel Naïve. In ignorance, I have tried to live life, make critical decisions with far-reaching consequences, and failed to seek wisdom. Solomon says that wisdom calls out to us. But, there is foolish woman that entices us as well. She says ‘turn in here’ and in that lodging we will compromise ourselves, become thieves, and hide out in a den of the dead. Let’s not listen to her voice, but choose wisdom and live! God’s paths are straight and available to the humble. He has given us Jesus’ life as a shining example. I will sleep in my own bed tonight!

A woman of foolishness is boisterous,
She has a lack of understanding and knows nothing.
She sits at the doorway of her house,
On a seat by the high places of the city,
Calling to those who pass by,
Who are going straight on their paths:
“Whoever is naïve, let him turn in here,”
And to him who lacks understanding she says,
“Stolen water is sweet; and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”
But he does not know that the dead are there,
That her guests are in the depths of Sheol. Proverbs 9:13-18 NASB

How aware am I of the consequences of foolishness? What wise choices can I make today with finances, friendships, fitness, faith, and family?

God, as this day begins- I thank You that wisdom from above is freely offered. Help me to live in wise ways, eschew foolishness, and share what You have taught me to others. As I pause to pray for people on my prayer list, would You show Your mercy and grace to those particular people dealing with cancer: Mary, Jeanetta, Alberto, in particular.
