As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.
It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which angels long to look. 1 Peter 1:10-12
God put the idea of a Savior that would come into the world (and with Him, the grace of God). It could be argued that He is the very grace of God. The prophets searched out to understand what God was prompting and putting into their minds. They wrote for our benefit about the sufferings of Christ and the salvation that would result from His death and resurrection. Its interesting that even angels were not fully aware of what was to come. So when the heavenly host sing “glory to God in the highest” at Jesus birth, they are expressing genuine elation and some surprise!
What a great reminder this Christmas season that God is in control.
How does the way I live my life reflect that I believe He is in control? Who in my circle of friends needs to realize for the first time that God has a wonderful plan of salvation that includes them?
God, may I be extra sensitive and attentive to those who need You in their lives. Thank you for my wife’s recover from surgery. Please hasten the process and help me and the boys be helpful. Thanks for the kitty cat that is purring on my lap right now as I do this Bible and devotional time with You!
