Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:25-28
My wife and I were talking this morning about what it means to be a good leader. There have been ‘great’, skilled or historically significant leaders who were not good by any Christian definition. So, we landed on the idea that a good leader is one that exhibits qualities and characteristics of Jesus Christ. One of those qualities is servanthood vs. lording it over others.
Am I serving those around me? Am I stewarding my gifts and energy in such a way that it makes a difference for eternity?
God, someone on earth has tried to switch all the price tags and confuse us about what really matters. Thank you for Jesus’ words and example on how to live, love and lead.
