Good And Fitting

It feels really good when we work and receive a reward. Maybe its a side project that we do and unexpected income comes our way. They we go and buy a tri-tip steak and have a BBQ with the family. That’s really nice. Solomon saw and pointed out many evils in the world. But, he also recognized that something was good and fitting. The relationship between work, reward and rejoicing are in his opinion a gift from God. In the midst of living in that cycle, we tend forget how brief our stay on earth really is. Of course, when we live ‘under heaven’, with recognition of eternity, that will not be enough. We will also want to prepare for the next life and serve more than ourselves in this life. We will want to please God.

Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat, to drink and enjoy oneself in all one’s labor in which he toils under the sun during the few years of his life which God has given him; for this is his reward. Furthermore, as for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, He has also empowered him to eat from them and to receive his reward and rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God. For he will not often consider the years of his life, because God keeps him occupied with the gladness of his heart. Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 NASB

How can I rejoice in the rewards of my labor? How can I keep God and eternity in my heart as well?

God, as this day begins- I am so very grateful and happy that our new grandson Avery has come into the world. I am proud of my daughter Eden for her labor. She is a mother now! Wow. May I be a source of love and inspiration to that beautiful child. This too is good and fitting!
