For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death. 2 Corinthians 7:10
God gave us the emotion of sorrow or remorse. Sorrow comes about when we see what we have done and understand it to be a violation of His character and holy law and love. When reconciled by faith (based on Jesus’ substitutionary payment for our sins upon the cross), we are freed from regret and led to salvation. In contrast, those outside of Christianity miss the ultimate reconciliation with their maker- that’s a sorrow leading to death.
What sorrow has the Spirit of God brought about in me that requires repentance? What regret can I leave behind?
God, as this day begins, please forgive my wrongdoing and make me useful for your purpose. May I see the many opportunities to reach out and love people in Your name.
