Free Your Mind

Capture the flag was a game I loved to play in grade school. I was pretty fast and could often get to the “flag”, which was usually a chalkboard eraser on the grass field. Once in hand, I would have to return to my team’s side without being ‘caught’ or tagged. Today, there are forces seeking to capture my mind. No matter how fast or intelligent I think I am, I can still be captured by cleverly crafted philosophies of the world that run contrary to God. A philosophy is the way I live, based on what I think and believe. I am seeing people deceived into living selfish lives, overly sexualized lives, and lonely lives. Why? They bought into a ‘this is all there really is’ mentality, not understanding God has another life we must prepare for while living this one. We are missing the prize of God’s upward call in Christ Jesus because of worldly influences. Our culture, public schools, and government are little help and seem to foster falsehoods, division and hate, fleshly indulgences, and damning heresies. All the more reason to plug into a Bible teaching church and ground ourselves in Christ and His love.

Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.  For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority. Colossians 2:8-10 NLT

What deceptive thoughts are capturing my mind that should instead be taken captive in Christ? What can I do to foster truth, love and godliness today?

God, as this day begins- Thank you that You are able to show me the truth because You are The Truth. Help me live as a reflection of Your great love, wisdom, and life in a dying world in desperate need of both. Help me solve my problems today by relying on You and looking to godly principles You’ve taught me so often in the Bible. Free my mind from worldly and vain philosophies.
