Fighting Against God

But when they heard this, they were cut to the quick and intended to kill them. But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the Law, respected by all the people, stood up in the Council and gave orders to put the men outside for a short time. And he said to them, “Men of Israel, take care what you propose to do with these men… I say to you, stay away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or action is of men, it will be overthrown; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or else you may even be found fighting against God.” Acts 5:33-35;38-39

Gamaliel gave good advice to the Jewish leaders. He said, be careful about how you respond to Peter and John and the miracles that were being done in Jesus’ name. They could very well find themselves fighting against God. Sometimes we can find ourselves resisting something new that God is doing. That’s when we need to take Gamaliel’s advice to wait and pray and see the fruit.

What new thing is God calling me to right now? What is he doing through others that I can champion and celebrate?

Lord, there are many wonderful expressions of love and spiritual growth all around. Help me perceive You in it and celebrate, not resist. Today, I pray You will strengthen my wife and the mission team. Restore their energy and give them a sense of teamwork. Help them rely upon one another. Show them opportunities to minister to people and one another.
