nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, even though as apostles of Christ we might have asserted our authority. But we proved to be gentle among you, as a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children. Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us. 1 Thessalonians 2:5-8

In Bible college I had a course called “Evangelism & Nurture”. I remember thinking… I am all for evangelism, but let’s leave the nurture to someone else… someone whimpy! My professor, the wonderful and illustrious Dr. Leroy Lawson chided us “You have NO evangelism if you don’t have nurture”. That’s what the apostle Paul was saying. As a nursing mother, he cared for those who were responding to the gospel.

Am I seeking any glory from men? Am I gentle, caring, affectionate and well-pleasing?

God, what a joy to care for Your people and nurture people who are coming to You and responding to the gospel. thank you for the privilege. I pray You will entrust each who is being saved as You add them to Crossroads church.
