As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore. So Jesus said to the twelve, You do not want to go away also, do you? Simon Peter answered Him, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God. John 6:66-69
Jesus described Himself as the bread from heaven (the bread of life). He said difficult things for the people to hear, even His disciples. For instance, He said… Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. What? Eat flesh, drink blood?! No wonder it confused everyone and caused some to turn away. Of course, we see from this side of the cross how necessary it is to accept the sacrificial life, death and resurrection of our Savior as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. But, hearing it the first time on the other side of the cross must have been stunning. And oh, how wonderful is Peter’s answer. Lord, You have the words of eternal life.
Is this my understanding? Have I embraced the Savior? Do I ‘eat His flesh and drink His blood’? I do. For I appreciate and accept what He has done for me.
Jesus, Your teachings amaze me. I have believed and come to know that You are the Holy One of God. What a difference You have made in my life. I will walk in Your ways today. Lead and guide in every way.
