Don’t Give Up In Times Of Adversity

For you yourselves know, brethren, that our coming to you was not in vain, but after we had already suffered and been mistreated in Philippi, as you know, we had the boldness in our God to speak to you the gospel of God amid much opposition. For our exhortation does not come from error or impurity or by way of deceit; but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who examines our hearts. 1 Thessalonians 2:1-4

Sometimes a bad experience can cause me to ‘shrink back’ from what I know I should do. The Christians in Philippi were mistreated, jailed, and maligned for preaching Jesus! But, in spite of that treatment, when they arrived in Thessalonica, they fulfilled their calling and spoke the gospel of God with boldness in face of opposition. Why? Not for sordid gain, to deceive, or to please their hearers… but rather to please God who knows our hearts.

What opposition to the gospel and/or my calling am I facing today? How can I move forward in love with full assurance and boldness?

God, I thank you for the high calling of preaching the gospel and ministering to Your people. May I not shrink back but rather continue to share Your Word, Your ways, and Your will will all I meet. May no person I know be excluded from hearing the gospel, even if they are contrary to it at the moment.
